KINGSTON, NY - “You play like a girl!” used to be one of baseball’s classic insults. Not since Jennie Finch came on the scene. Considered by many as the best softball pitcher in the world, Finch has won championship after championship, set records, and in 2004, played for the Olympic Gold medal winning American softball team. She is a two-time winner of the NCAA Most Outstanding Player, and NCAA record holder for longest winning streak (60 games). Off the field, Finch is equally accomplished. Arguably one of the most recognizable faces in women’s sports, Finch was the first female correspondent for the long-running television program “This Week in Baseball,” and most recently, she’s joined ESPN as a correspondent, covering Fantasy Baseball across multiple ESPN properties including ESPN Network, ESPN.com & ESPN Magazine. Finch is easy on the eyes too – she looks more like she belongs on the beach than on the bench. In 2003, she was named one of ESPN’s “Hottest Female Athletes” and this year, she makes the list of People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful People”. In special recognition of the 35th anniversary of Title IX, a law that guarantees equal opportunities for girls and women to participate in athletics, The Women’s Health & Fitness Expo is pleased to announce Finch as one of this year’s keynote speakers. She’ll inspire women of all ages with her address entitled “Winning On and Off the Field”. Once again, the Hudson Valley Region is getting ready for one day in May when women, men and kids will come together to learn how to lead healthier, active and more fulfilling lives. The 7th Annual Women’s Health and Fitness Expo is set to be held May 5, 2007 at the Kingston Tech Center in Kingston, NY. The Expo, with over 100 workshops, lectures, vendors, and cooking demonstrations offers women, and even men and children a chance to change their lives, to experience different ways to cook, eat, exercise and feel better, physically, mentally and spiritually. The event will also feature another Title IX hero: Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon and author of Marathon Woman ((Carroll & Graf, 2007).
