Dorian Miller Signs with Lunar Sports Group

Dorian Miller Rutgers team captain and Guard, Dorian Miller has signed with Lunar Sports Group heading into the NFL Draft. Miller, an honorable mention All-Big Ten honoree, started all 12 games at left guard and played in 38 career games overall. He was part of an offensive line that had the second-fewest sacks permitted (18) in the Big Ten and cleared the way for 200 or more rushing yards on three occasions. That included 274 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns in the victory at Illinois. On Friday Night, December 15th, Miller took home the David Bender Trophy award given to the offensive lineman to properly recognize merit.

Edwards & Joseph Earn Homer Hazel Award

Fifth-year seniors Gus Edwards and Sebastian Joseph were both honored with the Homer Hazel Award Friday at the Rutgers football senior banquet. The award has been given out each season since 1953 to the most valuable player on the team, with this marking the second time being shared (1972).

Edwards, who was named honorable mention All-Big Ten, joined Rutgers as a graduate transfer and led the team with 713 rushing yards, 816 all-purpose yards and seven total touchdowns asthe starting running back in 2017. The Staten Island native rushed for 512 yards in conference play, the most by a Scarlet Knight in a Big Ten season since joining the conference. He recorded a season-high 109 rushing yards versus Maryland, adding a go-ahead 23-yard receiving score to help the Scarlet Knights secure the win. In addition, Edwards broke free for a 74-yard touchdown in the Purdue triumph, the longest rush ever by a Rutgers player against Big Ten competition.

The defensive lineman totaled 41 tackles as a senior with a career-high seven in the win over Maryland. MMA Legend Frankie Edgar Signs with Lunar Sports

Lunar Sports Group has signed MMA Legend, Frankie Edgar. A New Jersey icon, Edgar is the former UFC Lightweight Champ and future UFC Featherweight Champ. He’ll be fighting Max Holloway for the Featherweight title at UFC 218 on December, 2nd in Detroit, MI. With a victory, Edgar joins an elite list of fighters to hold a UFC title in two separate weight classes; BJ Penn, Randy Couture and Conor McGregor.

This incredible journey of Frankie Edgar began in Toms River, New Jersey where he was born and raised. Frankie wrestled at Toms River High School East, making it to the New Jersey state championship tournament on three occasions, placing second as a junior and fifth as a senior. Edgar is the oldest of 3 children, Edgar went on to compete in the NHSCA Senior Nationals and placed second before he finished high school. He continued wrestling at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where he qualified for the nationals all four years there.

Edgar entered his first mixed martial arts fight with only a few weeks of training outside of his wrestling background. Edgar originally trained with Rob Guarino of Rhino Fight Team, but today he is part of the Gracie system under Ricardo Almeida in Hamilton, NJ, who is part of the Gracie Barra team. Since seventh grade Edgar has wrestled with Steve Rivera at Elite Wrestling NJ in Jackson, NJ. His boxing trainer is Mark Henry of Millstone, NJ.

Edgar became the UFC Lightweight Champion at UFC 112 when he defeated BJ Penn by unanimous decision. In the history of the UFC, no fighter has spent more time in the Octagon, just under 6.5 hours.

These days, Edgar is a New Jersey legend, raising his family in Toms River, not far from where he grew up himself.

Tim Wright Signs with Lunar Sports Group

Veteran NFL tight end, Tim Wright has signed with Lunar Sports Group for contract representation. Wright is currently a free agent after spending the 2017 pre season with the Detroit Lions. Pat Capra will serve as Tim Wright’s agent.

Wright was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the 2013 NFL Draft. Wright played all 16 games for the Buccaneers, starting 8, finishing the season with 54 catches for 571 yards and 5 touchdowns, the yards and touchdowns tied for the most by an undrafted rookie tight end in NFL history. Wright was the only rookie tight end in 2013 to have more than 500 receiving yards.

On August 26, 2014, Wright was traded by the Buccaneers to the New England Patriots along with a 2015 4th round draft pick for guard Logan Mankins. Wright played in 11 games for the Patriots, catching 26 passes for 259 yards, with a career-high 6 touchdowns. Wright played in the Patriots Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Wright played for the Lions during the 2015 season where he finished with nine receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns. After re-signing with the Lions to a one-year contract., Wright tore his ACL on May 31, 2016 and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. On August 9, 2017, Wright re-signed with the Lions before being released at the end of the preseason.

Devin McCourty Helps Raise $220k for Tackle Sickle Cell

New England Patriots All-Pro Safety, Devin McCourty teamed up with Boston Medical Center and Next Step to host “Tackle Sickle Cell Casino Night” presented by Rockport Mortgage on Monday, October 16th. The event, which took place at Royale in Boston, was an enormous success, generating a net profit of $220,000 which will support Next Step’s free year-round programming for teenagers and young adults living with sickle cell disease as well as the Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease at Boston Medical Center. The venue was filled with almost 400 attendees including a number of Devin’s New England Patriots teammates.

“I can’t believe how big this has gotten and I’m so grateful for our partners Next Step & Boston Medical Center along with all of our incredibly generous sponsors and donors,” said McCourty. “I never dreamed that collectively we could have this kind of impact on the Sickle Cell Community. I’ve had a chance to personally meet so many sickle cell families so I know the difference this will make in their lives.”

Devin and his twin brother Jason McCourty of the Cleveland Browns launched the Tackle Sickle Cell campaign in 2013 in partnership with Embrace Kids Foundation to educate the public, increase blood donors, and raise money and awareness for the fight against sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited blood disorder, impacting nearly 100,000 Americans.

Over the last five years, the twins have hosted multiple blood drives and fundraising events in their home state of New Jersey as well as the two cities where the twins play for their respective NFL teams. This past June 19th, in honor or World Sickle Cell Day, Embrace Kids Foundation announced that The McCourty Twins Tackle Sickle Cell Campaign would be covering the full cost of college books for all Embrace Kids Scholarship recipients that have sickle cell!

Monday Night Bowling with Big Blue

East Rutherford, NJ – On Monday, November 6, 2017, New York Giants linebacker, JT Thomas is hosting “Monday Night Bowling.” This charity bowling event benefits Intensive Therapeutics, and takes place at AMF Wallington Lanes, which is located at 299 Paterson Avenue in Wallington, NJ. JT Thomas will be joined by many of his NY Giants teammates at this event.

Intensive Therapeutics is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit, charitable organization that provides group and individual occupational therapy services to children with autism and children with hemiplegia, from stroke, CP, and brain injury.

The mission of Intensive Therapeutics and helping children with special needs is very important to JT Thomas as his younger brother has autism. “My main focus is raising awareness for autism so that we can help children with special needs succeed,” said Thomas. “I’ve always tried to use my platform to do something meaningful that goes beyond football and this is another opportunity to do just that. Intensive Therapeutics offers some amazing therapy programs to a variety of children. It’s a great environment to spend time with the kids and their families and I couldn’t be happier to host this event for the third consecutive year!”

Monday Night Bowling with Big Blue

East Rutherford, NJ – On Monday, November 6, 2017, New York Giants linebacker, JT Thomas is hosting “Monday Night Bowling.” This charity bowling event benefits Intensive Therapeutics, and takes place at AMF Wallington Lanes, which is located at 299 Paterson Avenue in Wallington, NJ. JT Thomas will be joined by many of his NY Giants teammates at this event.

Intensive Therapeutics is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit, charitable organization that provides group and individual occupational therapy services to children with autism and children with hemiplegia, from stroke, CP, and brain injury.

The mission of Intensive Therapeutics and helping children with special needs is very important to JT Thomas as his younger brother has autism. “My main focus is raising awareness for autism so that we can help children with special needs succeed,” said Thomas. “I’ve always tried to use my platform to do something meaningful that goes beyond football and this is another opportunity to do just that. Intensive Therapeutics offers some amazing therapy programs to a variety of children. Dorian Miller Signs with Lunar Sports Group

Dorian Miller Rutgers team captain and Guard, Dorian Miller has signed with Lunar Sports Group heading into the NFL Draft. Miller, an honorable mention All-Big Ten honoree, started all 12 games at left guard and played in 38 career games overall. He was part of an offensive line that had the second-fewest sacks permitted (18) in the Big Ten and cleared the way for 200 or more rushing yards on three occasions. That included 274 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns in the victory at Illinois. On Friday Night, December 15th, Miller took home the David Bender Trophy award given to the offensive lineman to properly recognize merit.

Fifth-year seniors Gus Edwards and Sebastian Joseph were both honored with the Homer Hazel Award Friday at the Rutgers football senior banquet. The award has been given out each season since 1953 to the most valuable player on the team, with this marking the second time being shared (1972).

Edwards, who was named honorable mention All-Big Ten, joined Rutgers as a graduate transfer and led the team with 713 rushing yards, 816 all-purpose yards and seven total touchdowns asthe starting running back in 2017. The Staten Island native rushed for 512 yards in conference play, the most by a Scarlet Knight in a Big Ten season since joining the conference. He recorded a season-high 109 rushing yards versus Maryland, adding a go-ahead 23-yard receiving score to help the Scarlet Knights secure the win. In addition, Edwards broke free for a 74-yard touchdown in the Purdue triumph, the longest rush ever by a Rutgers player against Big Ten competition.

The defensive lineman totaled 41 tackles as a senior with a career-high seven in the win over Maryland. MMA Legend Frankie Edgar Signs with Lunar Sports

Lunar Sports Group has signed MMA Legend, Frankie Edgar. A New Jersey icon, Edgar is the former UFC Lightweight Champ and future UFC Featherweight Champ. He’ll be fighting Max Holloway for the Featherweight title at UFC 218 on December, 2nd in Detroit, MI. With a victory, Edgar joins an elite list of fighters to hold a UFC title in two separate weight classes; BJ Penn, Randy Couture and Conor McGregor.

This incredible journey of Frankie Edgar began in Toms River, New Jersey where he was born and raised. Frankie wrestled at Toms River High School East, making it to the New Jersey state championship tournament on three occasions, placing second as a junior and fifth as a senior. Edgar is the oldest of 3 children, Edgar went on to compete in the NHSCA Senior Nationals and placed second before he finished high school. He continued wrestling at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where he qualified for the nationals all four years there.

Edgar entered his first mixed martial arts fight with only a few weeks of training outside of his wrestling background. Edgar originally trained with Rob Guarino of Rhino Fight Team, but today he is part of the Gracie system under Ricardo Almeida in Hamilton, NJ, who is part of the Gracie Barra team. Since seventh grade Edgar has wrestled with Steve Rivera at Elite Wrestling NJ in Jackson, NJ. His boxing trainer is Mark Henry of Millstone, NJ.

Edgar became the UFC Lightweight Champion at UFC 112 when he defeated BJ Penn by unanimous decision. In the history of the UFC, no fighter has spent more time in the Octagon, just under 6.5 hours.

These days, Edgar is a New Jersey legend, raising his family in Toms River, not far from where he grew up himself.

Tim Wright Signs with Lunar Sports Group

Veteran NFL tight end, Tim Wright has signed with Lunar Sports Group for contract representation. Wright is currently a free agent after spending the 2017 pre season with the Detroit Lions. Pat Capra will serve as Tim Wright’s agent.

Wright was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the 2013 NFL Draft. Wright played all 16 games for the Buccaneers, starting 8, finishing the season with 54 catches for 571 yards and 5 touchdowns, the yards and touchdowns tied for the most by an undrafted rookie tight end in NFL history. Wright was the only rookie tight end in 2013 to have more than 500 receiving yards.

On August 26, 2014, Wright was traded by the Buccaneers to the New England Patriots along with a 2015 4th round draft pick for guard Logan Mankins. Wright played in 11 games for the Patriots, catching 26 passes for 259 yards, with a career-high 6 touchdowns. Wright played in the Patriots Super Bowl XLIX victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Wright played for the Lions during the 2015 season where he finished with nine receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns. After re-signing with the Lions to a one-year contract., Wright tore his ACL on May 31, 2016 and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. On August 9, 2017, Wright re-signed with the Lions before being released at the end of the preseason.

New England Patriots All-Pro Safety, Devin McCourty teamed up with Boston Medical Center and Next Step to host “Tackle Sickle Cell Casino Night” presented by Rockport Mortgage on Monday, October 16th. The event, which took place at Royale in Boston, was an enormous success, generating a net profit of $220,000 which will support Next Step’s free year-round programming for teenagers and young adults living with sickle cell disease as well as the Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease at Boston Medical Center. The venue was filled with almost 400 attendees including a number of Devin’s New England Patriots teammates.
